Live happily, you're worth it.

The Public Value of Pepperell's Forest and Shade Trees

Hello there!

It's been a few years since I reached out to you (since the CounterAct Climate Change webinar series ended). But given your interest in the climate change issue I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that esteemed climate scientist William Moomaw, PhD will be presenting on The Public Value of Pepperell's Forest and Shade Trees.

Moomaw is Professor Emeritus, Tufts University, the founding director of Tufts Institute of the Environment and Climate Initiative, and the co-founder of the Global Development and Environment Institute.

Of course, its not just about Pepperell trees; its about the trees in your neighborhood, and every neighborhood.

Trees improve air quality, build climate change resilience and support biodiversity; they protect us, so its important that we all learn the best ways we can protect them!

Saturday, November 22
11:30 AM–1:00 PM
The Lawrence Library
15 Main Street, Pepperell, MA

Artful Connecting
In the past few years I've devoted more time to drawing pencil and pastel illustrations of my favorite subjects: farms, veggies, and objects found in nature!

Recently I illustrated a book titled Lichenpedia: A Brief Compendium of Lichen Lore, written by Kay Hurley and published in 2024 by the Princeton University Press. I also created an exhibit called “Loving A Leek and the Soil It Grows In: The Art and Science of Soil Microbes,” which was soon followed by a January 2025 exhibit called Journey to the Rhizosphere.” In January 2026 I'll be creating a new chapter of art, film, and community projects.

A quick note: my META (Facebook + Instagram) accounts were hacked — so if you’re looking for me there, for now, I’m no longer posting.

Live happily, you're worth it. Collaborations Rooted in Trees and BooksOnce upon a time, I was a librarian — and a closeted handmade-paper bookmaker. My love of books runs deep, and so does my love of trees. My next two art projects bring these passions together with two artist friends. Fine woodworker Mark Whitcomb and I are creating a Coat Tree with Nuthatches — a functional sculpture that celebrates both craftsmanship and nature. And master bookbinder and conservator, Carolina Veenstra and...

Live happily, you're worth it. Spotlighting Stories That Inspire In the early stages of making his film, Bob Nesson met with me and poet/writer Charles Coe, who teaches poetry in various settings, including prisons. Part of my creative life has been devoted to spotlighting people who follow their passion for the natural world or social change. I’ve done this through documentary films, illustrations, and collaborations with people from all walks of life. Today I'd like to highlight John Walsh,...

Live happily, you're worth it. Rivers of Inspiration Looking toward the Missouri River from a truss bridge over Charette Creek in Marthasville, Missouri on a bicycle adventure on the 240-mile long Katy Trail. A painting study by Susan Edwards. June is National Rivers Month, a time to celebrate the waterways that sustain life and connect us to the natural world. It’s the perfect season to enjoy a river, whether by hiking, paddling, birding, or making art along its banks. I’m lucky to live near...
